Mandala for the First Chakra

Spontaneous mandala while listening to chanting music provided by Julia while we were participating in our Mandala Webinar.  This is so much fun and so satisfying.  It is very freeing to my soul to be doing these drawings with no preconceived idea at all....just checking in with myself and the image and letting it all go.

Mandala for my Intention to create

My intention for this mandala is:  To open my soul's creative channels to the light, eternality, love and wisdom within me, to share beauty.

I just set about an hour aside in my day to put on some inspiring music, and then I did the "Remembering Who You Are" meditation from Judith Cornell's Mandala book.  After the meditation I sat down and created this mandala.  I tried to keep my artist's mind free while I was drawing and just let the ideas and images flow.

Coming back to the process

I just started a Mandala webinar with Julia Weaver.  We have attendees from Japan, New York, New Jersey, Ohio and Oregon.  Years ago I bought Judith Cornell's book: "Mandala - Luminous Symbols for Healing" and "Drawing the Light from Within".  Julia is using the Mandala book as a reference for this course.  This last Monday was our first meeting and we were spending a lot of "sexy" time adjusting our software so that we could all see her desktop and images presented in her presentations.

We are using Prismacolor pencils on black paper.  The process is spiritual and fun!

Back to the Light

Painting the juicy lemons again....this time working with the aim of achieving a sense of transparency in the slices.

The Dark Side Again

Still dealing with the Shadow side of life. Wanting to emphasize how we perceive ourselves to be different, yet we are all the same underneath our skin.

Working with Shadow

I worked on creating a sense of mystery with the three lemons huddled together in the bowl. I emphasized this with the large shadow looming behind them that almost looks like a cathead.

Bun Buns's Farewell

Bun Bun was a good friend of Jim's. He traveled back and forth from Jim's home in Emeryville to Jim's cabin on the Navarro River near Mendocino. Bun Bun caught a mortal disease. He had happy days on the lawn in front of Jim's cabin. I did this egg tempera painting as a memorial of Bun Bun for my dear friend Jim. Bun Bun now lives on giving life to a tree that was planted above his dear little body.
